Sophie nodded. “Yup. He had to do some preliminary paperwork and stuff and had to get settled in with the task force today, so we stuck around here. I’m not needed yet.” She grinned. “So we came to visit you!”

“I like the apartment, by the way. It feels friendly.” She looked around. “Where are your friends?”

“…Um…Thanks?”

Mantis took a quick check of where everyone was. “Hmm..It seems Octopus is in his room and it seems he’s just noticed your arrival. Liquid’s…reading, I think. Abby is with Liquid. She’s writing something.”

Right on cue, Octopus stepped into the doorway.

“Hi.” He smiled with a slight wave. “Looks like Mantis is spying again, nothing unusual there.”

Lillian grinned. “Yeah, completely normal Mantis right there. And you’re Octopus, if my assumption is correct.”

She straightened her tie nervously. “Oh, I’m Lillian, by the way. Ha, I almost forgot to introduce myself!”

Sophie giggled as she stepped in the doorway. “Hi, Mantis, you big show-off.”

She stepped aside to let Lillian through, then closed the door using psychokinesis herself.

Lillian grinned as the door closed behind her. As much as she should be used to this kind of thing, it was still awfully entertaining.

She didn’t say anything. She felt Sophie’s greeting was perfect without any additions.

Arrival

Sophie eyed the crowd impatiently, waiting for Mantis. Where was he? The entrance wasn’t that far from where they were. 

Suddenly, on her eighth scan across the crowd, her eyes met a pair of ice blue ones, belonging to a thin, pale man with dark hair. Their eyes met, and she knew him immediately, even though she’d never seen him.

She smiled at him, and waved.

Mantis felt a small smile tugging at his own mouth. That was definitely Sophie, no question about it.

He moved out of the crowd, walking over to stand in front of Sophie.

“…Hi.”

She smiled back. “Hi.” She said, reaching into her coat pocket to turn her music off.

“It’s nice to meet you.”

She nudged Lillian. “Hey. Hey. Look who’s here.”

Lillian raised her eyes, suddenly becoming all too aware of the tall man standing in front of them.

She didn’t recognize him at first, not really. His face was different now, but…It was obviously him. Mantis. Lillian smiled shyly.

“Hey there. I was wondering when you’d show up.”
